BRIEF: create an app for a wearable platform that tracks a user’s mood throughout the day

THE PROCESS

THE RESEARCH & INSPIRATION

Before creating our apps, we were tasked with tracking our own mood for a few weeks. I quickly noticed a pattern between my mood and the weather. As the weather changed throughout the week, and even throughout the day, my mood would also change.

Upon further research, I was able to find studies on how heavily human emotions and moods are impacted by the environment. Using weather as my motif for my app, I created weather-related emoticons that are simplified enough to be seen on such a small screen.

Designing for an Apple Watch, I visited Apple’s design guidelines for their watch and was able to find their colors, icon restrictions, typefaces, and more. Their guidelines were used as the basis for my application’s design.

THE DATA VISUALIZATION

My app not only tracks the user’s mood, but it also tracks the user’s mood correlating to the weather. Users are able to view an overview of their moods throughout different time periods, as well as the frequency of similarity between their mood and the weather.

The size of the circles refer to the frequency of each situation and give an at-a-glance look at each user’s patterns.
